Some places live on your bucket list for years, almost too idyllic to believe they could be real. For me, that place was always COMO Laucala Island – my number one dream hotel in the world. I’d been yearning to visit this private island paradise in Fiji for over a decade, and when Anush and I finally had the chance to experience it, in partnership with COMO Hotels and Kiwi Collection, no less, it truly felt like the ultimate pinch-me moment.
From the breathtaking arrival to the warmth of the people and the unforgettable adventures woven into every day, Laucala isn’t just any luxury resort, its a destination in itself. It’s one of the world’s most exclusive escapes, where nature and luxury intertwine so seamlessly that every moment feels extraordinary.
This private island resort in Fiji is unlike anywhere else: 3,500 acres of unspoiled tropical wilderness with only 25 villas, each designed to feel like a secluded home suspended over water, nestled into rainforest, or tucked along the beach. The island even has its own private airstrip and a 240-acre farm that supplies much of the resort’s dining — redefining what “all-inclusive” can mean.
Reaching COMO Laucala Island is an adventure in itself. After arriving in Fiji at Nadi International Airport, we were escorted to COMO’s brand-new private hangar where light refreshments awaited. The anticipation only grew as we boarded a private jet for the 50-minute scenic flight over the South Pacific.
Many resorts claim to be all-inclusive, but Laucala redefines the concept. Every detail is thought of from gourmet dining and premium drinks, to activities that range from watersports to horseback riding, and even private dining experiences are all included. Guests also receive a complimentary COMO Shambhala massage, which set the tone for deep relaxation.
It’s not just about convenience here, it’s about freedom. Freedom to explore, to indulge, and to immerse yourself fully without ever needing to think about logistics.
Each of the 25 villas at Laucala is a world of its own — scattered across the island in settings as diverse as hilltops, rainforest, beachfront, or even suspended above the water. Every residence is designed to blend seamlessly into the landscape while offering a profound sense of privacy. These are not just rooms; they feel like private homes, crafted from natural Fijian materials and surrounded by raw beauty, where the boundary between indoors and outdoors melts away.
We stayed in a One Bedroom Plantation Villa, and it was the definition of rustic-luxe: soaring thatched roofs, polished timber, and chic details that balanced modern elegance with Fijian authenticity. The villa’s open-air concept meant we could float between spaces effortlessly, one moment lounging in our lush private garden, the next soaking in the outdoor stone bath or cooling off in our infinity-edge pool. Daybeds and shaded pavilions made it easy to slip into island time, with every corner designed for relaxation.
What struck me most was the way the villa felt so deeply connected to its surroundings. You could hear the rustle of palm trees, the sound of waves, and the calls of tropical birds, all while cocooned in total comfort. Each villa comes with its own buggy to explore the island, but honestly, with a sanctuary like this, it was hard to leave.
COMO Laucala Island’s dining is as much an experience as the island itself — fresh, vibrant, and deeply connected to the land and sea. Every meal felt like a celebration of flavor, sustainability, and creativity.
The main dining venue feels like a refined plantation home, with dishes crafted from the island’s own farm. I loved the freshness and vivid flavors — the chef’s daily creations made every breakfast and dinner feel special.
Perched atop a cliff with sweeping views, Seagrass offers Thai-inspired pan-Asian cuisine. The Pad Thai and pandan mango sticky rice were unforgettable, and the setting made it feel both intimate and cinematic.
A relaxed spot to enjoy light bites and tropical drinks right by the water. Perfect for casual afternoons or a slow sunset cocktail.
Our go-to for sundowners. Nestled among the treetops, it’s where we watched the sun dip over the bay with a cocktail in hand — pure bliss.
Sometimes the best meals are in your own villa. From breakfast in bed to a private picnic, or a toes in the sand private dinner, having the culinary team bring gourmet dishes to our doorstep made our stay feel utterly indulgent.
COMO Laucala Island isn’t just a destination; it’s an invitation to immerse yourself in a tapestry of experiences that blend adventure, culture, and tranquility. Here’s a glimpse into our unforgettable journey:
Each day began perfectly with a morning stretch session right at our villa. Waking up with the sunrise, breathing in the fresh island air, and moving gently before breakfast was the perfect way to set the tone for the day.
One of the most exhilarating moments was horseback riding along Long Beach at low tide. The rhythmic sound of hooves on the wet sand, the ocean breeze, and the sheer joy of galloping through such a pristine setting made it feel like a scene from a dream.
As the day drew to a close, we embarked on a sunset cruise aboard a traditional Fijian sailboat. The sky painted in hues of orange and pink, the gentle sway of the boat, and the vast expanse of the ocean around us created a serene and romantic atmosphere.
Led by the Executive Chef, we toured the island’s 240-acre organic farm. From lush herb gardens to spice plantations and orchards, witnessing the sustainable practices firsthand deepened our appreciation for the fresh ingredients that graced our plates daily.
Participating in a traditional Fijian cultural night, we learned about local customs, enjoyed a Kava ceremony, and savored a Lovo feast. The authenticity and warmth of the experience offered a profound connection to Fiji’s rich heritage.
One morning we set out on one of Laucala’s rainforest trails, a fun challenge that meandered through lush tropical greenery with birdsong echoing all around. Along the way, the path opened up to sweeping viewpoints over the island and neighboring Qamea, rewarding us with some of the most breathtaking vistas of our trip. It was the perfect balance to all the indulgence — staying active while being completely immersed in the island’s raw, untouched beauty.
A highlight of our stay was the 60-minute COMO Shambhala massage. The skilled therapists and tranquil setting left us feeling rejuvenated and deeply relaxed, embodying the essence of island wellness.
From jet skiing across turquoise waters to paddleboarding in serene lagoons, the array of watersports activities ensured that every day was filled with excitement and exploration.
One of the most striking features of the resort is its iconic lagoon-style pool — the largest in the South Pacific. With its multi-layered design, glass-walled lap pool, and hidden coves tucked between palms, it feels less like a pool and more like a living piece of art. We loved spending lazy afternoons discovering new corners of it each day, from serene spots to lounge in the sun to dramatic infinity edges that seemed to merge seamlessly with the ocean beyond. And the best part? The beach is right next door, so you can slip effortlessly from pool to ocean and back again.
Beyond the villa and island adventures, COMO Laucala offers an impressive array of other activities, including off-island excursions, an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, and cooking classes — ensuring there’s always a way to stay active, try something new, or simply indulge in a little luxury.
Leaving COMO Laucala Island is bittersweet — it’s the kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve returned home. The combination of unparalleled privacy, breathtaking landscapes, and bespoke experiences makes it not just a resort, but a sanctuary for the soul. Every villa feels like your own private world, every meal is a celebration of the island’s bounty, and every activity is carefully crafted to create memories that linger.
What makes Laucala truly extraordinary, though, is the people. The staff greet you with warmth, anticipate your every need, and infuse even the smallest moments with care and attention. Their generosity of spirit transforms luxury into something deeply personal, something that feels like home — albeit the most magical home imaginable.
For me, COMO Laucala isn’t just a bucket-list dream fulfilled; it’s a place I know I will return to, again and again. As we said our final farewells, the staff’s heartfelt “Sota Tale” — see you again — felt like a promise. And I know, without a doubt, we will keep that promise.
Thanks for stopping by.
