For the longest time I had the Phi Phi islands in Thailand on my bucket list. It all started with being obsessed with the location in the movie “The Beach”! We chose to do a day trip by Speedboat from Phuket. The Phi Phi islands are a group of 6 islands in the Andaman Sea. The two main islands are Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Leh. The larger one Phi Phi Don has tons of hotels/airbnb’s etc where visitors can choose to stay as well. The smaller one Phi Phi Leh is uninhabited and has tons of picture perfect bays and beaches, including world famous Maya May where The Beach was filmed.

The beauty of these islands is something I seriously cant put down in words. For me they were love at first sight – giant sheer cliffs in the water that give way to pristine beaches, and dense mangrove beach jungles. All the tropical magic!

Our first stop was at beautiful Maya Bay in Phi Phi Leh – the view was incredibly breathtaking! The Bay has the whitest soft sands, clear blue water and gorgeous mangrove jungles. It is the perfect place to spend an afternoon.

On the other side of Maya Bay is Koh Phi Phi Leh’s lagoon which is an excellent spot for snorkelling! We saw tons of amazing marine life right at our footsteps.

On our way to Koh Phi Phi Don, we also stopped by Viking Cave (below), which is a limestone cave that has ancient paintings. Today the Thai folk still use it to harvest the birds nest for the Chinese delicacy bird’s nest soup. Monkey Beach was yet another stop which is an island inhabited only by monkeys! It was so fun to see these beachbum monkeys living it up in their natural environment.

Lastly, we stopped at Koh Phi Phi Don for lunch, exploring and some beach time. I love how beautiful these Thai traditional long tail boats looked so perfectly perched on the shore against the lovely backdrop of the islands. This was a day for the books and something we will cherish for years to come! I can’t wait to go back and stay on the islands next time around.
