Fall is in full swing here in the Bay Area, so we were craving a little mountain getaway. Anush, Lola and I had the best fall weekend getaway at Desolation Hope Valley .
It is such a great destination whether it’s summer, fall or winter and being such a easy drive from the Bay Area you need to add this gem to your list stat.
Dreamy fall colors
This charming mountainside getaway has always been on our list and I am so glad we finally got to visit and that too with Lola! The best part of Desolation is that its entirely pet friendly and you can pretty much take your furry friends everywhere on property. Lola absolutely loved going on walks on so many trails, all the leaves and sticks and of course meeting other doggo friends.
Lola was in leaf and stick heaven!
Desolation Hope Valley is filled with opportunities to explore the wonder of the Sierra Nevada. You can choose from adventures right on the property, or others located nearby. There are tons of trails to hike on, go mountain biking, snowshoeing (in the winter), fishing, etc. As for on property things – you can try the sauna, live music at the common area (on weekends), etc .
We specifically chose to go to Desolation in peak fall, cos we wanted to experience the fall colors! Did you know California had fall colors like this?! Some of my favorite spots to view foliage in and around Hope Valley are here :
1) All around the hotel
2) Red Lake Creek Cabin
3) along highway 88 from Desolation to Carson’s pass
Magical Aspens all around the property in peak fall!

This all season adventure hotel is tucked away in the most dreamy aspen grove in the heart of Hope Valley in the Sierra Nevada. Whether you choose one of their cozy cabins, yurts, camping or a vintage spartan trailer , you are bound to have an incredible time being disconnected from the real world and in one with nature of these magical woods. We stayed in one of their 2 bedroom roomy cottages (Tanglewood) and it was seriously “cabinscape goals”. The log cabin had its own private patio, a cozy living area with fireplace, cute kitchenet, bathroom and 2 bedrooms – one downstairs with a double bed and the larger bedroom upstairs with a queen bed.
Very thoughtful welcome goodie bag for your pet – with treats, poop bags. They also provided food and water bowls.
Lola, Anush and me in plaid for fall!
Cozy fireplace in our cabin with a complimentary glass of wine that all guests get upon checkin.
Comfy queen bed in our cabin with baked goods from the General Store.
We loved dining at the picturesque Sorensen’s Cafe located right on property. For generations, people have been coming to Sorensen’s Café for delicious, home-cooked meals and mountain hospitality. Even if you aren’t staying here this is a great pitstop for lunch along Hwy 88 for lunch or dinner. Don’t miss their amazing Berry Cobbler. The General store down the road also has other yummy baked goods like pies, scones, cookies, etc.
Talk about dining with a view ! Deck at Sorensen’s Cafe
Overall we had a lovely weekend escape at Desolation Hope Vallley and can’t wait to return in the winter!
Thanks for stopping by. xoxo
