This year it was one of my travel goals to set foot atleast once on my 6th Continent – South America! And I am so grateful I got to visit Colombia and check off that travel goal. Since we had a long 4 day weekend we only visited the charming city of Cartagena in Colombia and decided to stay in the old Colonial walled city of Cartagena, a designated UNESCO world heritage site.
I had always had the luxury boutique hotel “Casa San Agustin” forever on my travel bucket list after having seen it in a ton of magazines and other prestigious travel publications. Staying at Casa San Agustin in Cartagena was an absolute dream come true! This magical boutique hotel is a part of the Leading Hotels Of The World and is undoubtedly one of the best places to stay in all of Cartagena. Located in the heart of the old town, it is an intimate Colombian oasis like no other. Infact Travel and Leisure also recently voted it as the #2 Best hotel in all of Central and South American cities in its 2019 World Travel Awards!
The hotel has been beautifully reimagined to retain its rich Colombian style. It is comprised of three adjacent houses, and has the perfect blend of modern contemporary style while maintaining its original colonial features from the 17th century – such as the library’s frescoes, wooden beamed ceilings and an ancient aqueduct wall which is the center around which the hotel is built. The juxtaposition of these ancient details against the hotel’s modern pristine details totally vibes with how the Old city of Cartagena is a blend of the past and present.

In the centre there is a lovely courtyard with the historic 300 year old aqueduct surrounded by palm trees and tropical planters which makes it the most peaceful poolscape I have ever experienced – so serene and dreamy! No wonder it is Cartagena’s most photographed and insta famous pool :), makes for the best photo opp!
If you want to catch the suns rays and lay out in the sun – the solarium on the rooftop is the place for you. There is also a bar here which had all the fresh fruit and refreshments you need on a hot summer day. I especially loved the birds eye view from here of the old city as well as the hotel.

The hotel has 20 guestrooms and 11 suites. We stayed in the Deluxe Suite and it was absolutely gorgeous with its tall ceilings, a luxurious 4 post bed, a spacious private balcony with sunbeds and a marble bathroom with the most intricate tilework. Every single decor detail was impeccable and so thoughtfully chosen to evoke that sense of Colombian style – I love it! If you choose to stay in one of their bigger suites, you would even have a private jacuzzi in your own patio/balcony!

Location wise as I mentioned, it could not get any more ideal! Since it is tucked away in the heart of old town; Anush and I were able to explore around everywhere on foot or using the hotels bicycles! It also gets super hot and humid this time of year which also make us make frequent stops back to our amazing room to refresh and recoup. So grateful that the location was this convenient.

There is one restaurant on property called Alma which is one of the best fine dining places to catch a meal in Cartagena! The decor and ambiance in in the restaurant is also worth noting – so stunning. We loved our delicious breakfast here on all days. The spread not only had breakfast classics but also delicious local fruit, juices and local eats like empanadas, arepas and the like – yum! Also every afternoon they serve tea and cookies in the library for in house guests.

Aside from the pool, Casa San Agustin has other amenities like a private beach experience in the Rosario islands and a spa on property that the concierge will be happy to assist you with. That being said – the staff on property are extremely hospitable and genuinely so courteous ; they make sure you feel at home and have the best stay. I especially loved that the personalized concierge service when I wanted to plan a day trip to the Rosario Islands they were able to help me book the one that fit my budget and expectations the best.
All my outfits :
There’s no surprise why Casa San Agustín is consistently named as one of the best luxury hotels in Colombia year after year. If you ever visit Cartagena and are looking for a chic luxurious boutique stay this is the place for you! It is a place that makes you feels like home yet also giving you that sense that you have stepped into your own private Colombian casita! Overall we had a wonderful stay at Casa San Agustin and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cartagena.
Thanks for stopping by! Stay tuned for my Cartagena travel guide later this week. xoxo
