My experience with Emsculpt + Q & A

If you have been following along on stories, you know that I recently tried a brand new body contouring method called the Emsculpt. I went to Dr Usha Rajagopal part of San Francisco Plastic Surgery and Laser Center in San Francisco, a leading plastic surgeon in the city who was the first practice to start the Emsculpt here in San Francisco. So what is the Emsculpt? EMSCULPT is an FDA approved body contouring method which is the world’s only non-invasive body shaping procedure to simultaneously build muscle and burn fat. In addition, the EMSCULPT creates the world’s first non-invasive butt lift procedure. No downtime. No anesthesia.

The Emsculpt uses brand new technology called High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology, which is similar technology that the MRI is based on, but the energy level is less than the MRI. This stimulates the muscles that the probes are laid on. Depending on what area you choose – the abdominal area and/or buttocks, 1-2 paddles are placed on each side, and then the stimulation starts. It initially feels like a little jolt but then you will have quite intense contractions. Its equivalent to doing 20000 situps in 30 minutes!

I have only done Emsculpt for the abs and never the butt so all my details here only concern the ab area. I first tried the Emsculpt last November and just did 1 session and with that I already saw a good tone! So in Jan I did 2 sessions which gave me a better overall tone. Finally I did 3 sessions before my Cook islands trip and I am honestly so happy with the results. It has definitely given me an additional boost and that extra edge to toning my body aside from eating clean and working out. The staff at the clinic are super kind and courteous and are always around to make sure you are comfortable during the procedure since this is such a new technology.

Here are some commonly asked questions that I have gotten around Emsculpt :

Is the Emsculpt for everyone?

Ideal candidates are patients who are in are looking for an extra tone improvement in muscle and patients looking for non-invasive butt lift. In my opinion this is no substitute for working out hard and eating clean consistently but its a great way to complement a healthy lifestyle.

As a general rule, Emsculpt does not remove a lot of fatty tissue and certainly does not address any intra-abdominal fat, but it is great for slightly reducing subcutaneous fat in the abdomen and strengthening and defining your abdominal muscles. To see if you are an ideal candidate you can contact Dr Usha Rajagopal  for an initial consultation.

How many Emsculpt sessions do you need ?

It depends from person to person. During your initial consultation the doctor will be able to recommend what you need. Ideally 4 sessions are recommended within 2 weeks (2 in the first week spaced 3-4 days apart and 2 in the second week spaced similarly). I have tried 1, 2 and 3 sessions but saw the best results with 3 sessions + 1 maintenance session a few weeks later.

How much does Emsculpt cost in the San Francisco Bay Area?

At the San Francisco Plastic Surgery and Laser Center, the Emsculpt treatment starts at $3,000 for a package of 4 sessions. But if you go through me (mention that you saw it on my blog or IG) you get $1000 off if you go in 2019!! So its 4 sessions for $2000!

How long is the treatment time for each Emsculpt session?

The treatment time for the Emsculpt is 30 minutes, with a minimum of 4 treatments scheduled within 2-4 weeks as I mentioned above.

Does the Emsculpt hurt ?

It depends on your pain tolerance level. For me it felt like very intense muscle contractions and since I have done it a bunch I make them tune up to the machine to a 100% capacity so it is pretty intense but quite manageable since its just 30 min! Tip – bring a pair of headphones to listen to some music to distract you while you are in your session :).

How soon will I see results from Emsculpt?

It is said that ideal results are seen 4-6 weeks after 4 sessions. But honestly I saw mild results a few days after and saw the best results about 1-2 weeks after all my sessions itself. You will continue to see improvement several weeks following the treatments provided you also supplement it with an active lifestyle, working out and eating well.

Is there any downtime after the Emsculpt treatment?

No, there isn’t any downtime after your Emsculpt treatment.

How can I make Emsculpt more effective post-treatment?

After the Emsculpt session is done it is really important to maintain your core strength, so core exercises like planks or sit-ups or anything to activate your abdominal muscles will make the Emsculpt effect last longer.

Hope this helps if you are interested in trying out this incredible body contouring method. Let me know if you have any other further questions. Highly recommend Dr Rajagopal’s clinic for Emsculpt. And remember if you go through me (mention that you saw it on my blog or IG) you get $1000 off if you go in 2019!! So its 4 sessions for $2000.
