Mexico is always a good idea! Especially from California, its so easy being just a 3 hour flight to the west coast of Mexico and can be a super convenient weekend or long weekend getaway. We went to Cabo last year, you can see more in my Cabo travel guide here; and I was itching to get back to Mexico again this winter but this time to Puerto Vallarta. Puerto Vallarta is also located on the west coast of Mexico and is a popular destination to visit in Mexico, thanks to its beaches, water sports and nightlife scene. My blogger girlfriends – Paulina and Caroline and I were super excited for a girls getaway and were looking a Puerto Vallarta boutique hotel that would give us an intimate and quiet girls trip.
We stumbled upon Casa Velas, an all inclusive luxury boutique hotel located along the fairways of the Marina Vallarta Golf Club. It is also minutes from Puerto Vallarta International Airport, within walking distance of Puerto Vallarta’s marina and within 15 minutes from the charming city center with its famous mile-long boardwalk, El Malecon. What I loved most about this charming adults only boutique hotel is how secluded and quaint it felt for being an all inclusive. It is no surprise that this property is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and is in the top five in TripAdvisor for Puerto Vallarta resorts since 2010. With its Spanish style architecture and lush tropical landscapes , Casa Velas totally reminded me of a private romantic Hacienda.
In and around the romantic property
The hotel features 80 spacious suites, some with private pools and Jacuzzis. Each suite is exquisitely furnished and decorated with textures and colors inspired by traditional Mexican design. We stayed in a grand class suite which was perfect for 3 people. the decor was so impeccable and our fave part – the plunge pool on our balcony looking out into the lush tropics.

We also got to visit the Presidential Suite (below) at the property and it was so beautiful! If you are a family looking for a luxurious and spacious 4 bedroom suite, this would be perfect.

Even though Casa Velas isn’t on the beach it is just minutes away from the shore and has a private ocean club which has a gorgeous infinity pool, oceanfront restaurant and loungers on the beach. It is the perfect place to spend the day and get some vitamin sea or catch the spectacular sunset while sipping on cocktails and enjoying some delicious Oriental cuisine. On our first night we went in the late afternoon to spend sometime at the pool here and then caught a gorgeous sunset right at their private Ocean Club and we were literally the only ones on the beach.

On property, there are other dining options too – whether you choose to order room service, at the pool bar or dine in the award winning Emiliano restaurant. We tried breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant and it was so delicious. The AAA Four Diamond rated a la carte fine dining restaurant, is in the hands of one of the area’s leading chefs serving Mexican and international cuisine. My fave was the delicious breakfast buffet every morning – try the fresh squeezed juices and Mexican brekky delicacies so yummy!

Guests can also enjoy dining privileges at the sister resort, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit and Velas Vallarta. We went to the Grand Velas for dinner on one of the days and tried the new Pan Asian restaurant on their property called Sen Lin – highly recommend it! If you are looking for a bigger resort that is not adults only, check out Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit. The location is phenomenal and the property was simply stunning!

Other amenities on Casa Velas include the pool, spa, golf fitness center, daily activities and more. The pool is so picturesque and nestled among swaying palms with chic sunbeds and cabanas all around. Our go to afternoon activity – fiesta and siesta by the pool haha! I lived on the passionfruit smoothies and fish tacos here – super delicious.
Delicious drinks by the pool
We also treated ourselves for a Hydrotherapy session and a herbal ritual massage at the ABJA Spa at Casa Velas. The hydrotherapy session lets you experience the benefits of sauna, pressure shower, steam with eucalyptus inhalation and ends with time in the jacuzzi. The massage is a traditional healing technique with compresses filled with aromatic herbs and botanicals such as orange peel, cloves, and bay leaves from the hotel’s garden. It left me feeling so refreshed, I highly recommend it. The spa also offers other treatment services to choose from.
Post spa feeling super refreshed and recharged
There were so many peacocks around, so beautiful!
We had such a fun girls getaway to Casa Velas in Puerto Vallarta! Cant wait to head back once again next time hopefully with my hubs Anush.
