For the second half of our stay on the Big Island, we chose to stay at the beautiful Fairmont Orchid located right on the majestic Kohala coast. The resort sits on 32 oceanfront acres of lush tropical gardens, cascading waterfalls and a tranquil white sand beach and lagoon. Location wise, it is super convenient as it is located within the Mauna Lani resort area and just a short drive away to both Waimea as well the Kailua Kona region.
Views from our patio
We stayed in a beautiful oceanfront suite and our view was to die for! Our room was just footsteps away from the coast; and we loved waking up to the gorgeous island sunrise skies every morning. We had a luxurious bedroom, spacious bathroom and french doors that opened out to a private lanai/patio area.
Spa area
There are tons of activities to choose from to keep yourself occupied within the resort – from tennis, gold, an award winning spa (pictured above) as well as a 10,000 sq ft swimming pool!
The pool area is also super close to the beach so you can hop over to get your toes sandy as you please. The lagoon here at Fairmont orchid was my favorite part of the resort! I loved going here every morning for a quick dip in the water. The beach club also offers many water activities like stand up paddle boarding, snorkelling, stand up paddle board yoga and much more.
Lagoon area
Dining wise you are spoilt for choice on Fairmont orchid! I highly recommend award winning Brown’s Beach House for a sunset dinner, the location is superb as is the delicious farm to table seafood fare. Other dining options include a casual toes in the sand kinda cafe called Hale Kai, Orchid Court (where breakfast is served every morning), Luana Lounge for drinks and live music, and much more.
My fave place to catch the spectacular sunsets here at the Kohala coast is the gazebo (pic below) on the far end of the Fairmont Orchid property. You will see the sky turn into an array of the prettiest sunset colors and if you walk out all the way near the lagoon you can also see the hills behind the property turn pink! It was so so magical ; the perfect end to our amazing vacay on the Big island.
Stay tuned for my full travel guide to the island that I will be sharing next week. Thanks for stopping by! xoxo
