I was longing for a quick getaway after the temperatures suddenly dropped to being wet, cold and rainy in the Bay. So Anush and I made a last minute plan to head down to sunny Florida! We go to South Florida several times a year as we love the weather there, but this time we ventured out to the keys and visited a property that I had been dying to visit for the longest time – The Moorings Village in IslaMorada!
IslaMorada is situated midway between Miami and Key West and the Moorings Village sits on a beautiful 18 acre oceanfront land which also has a 1100 ft white sand beach – the natural sandy beach is one of the largest in the Keys. ( fyi its pretty rare in the keys to have long stretches of beach, so this is a blessing!). The resort was a former coconut plantation and hence has over 800 palm trees on property – HEAVEN! It is lush, tropical and tranquil and is seriously a hidden gem.
The Moorings Village has 18 beach-chic bungalows that are all fully furnished and range from 1 – 3 bedroom. We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom villas and to say that it was like my dream beachhouse is an understatement. The gorgeous 1200 sq ft bungalow was so impeccable in its interior design – I loved the mix of modern and island style vibes. It had a spacious living and dining area, an airy kitchen, two twin bedrooms, a bathroom (which was total goals) and ample balcony and front porch space. We absolutely loved spending our mornings on the porch sipping on coffee and enjoying the palms for days and amazing weather.
Since there are 18 bungalows across 18 acres, the serenity and privacy you get is unlike any other place! We honestly felt like we were the only ones there – it was so serene and tranquil ; the perfect escape.
I also recently learned that IslaMorada was called the “purple island” by Spanish explorers! And after we experienced the sunset here it was clearly evident why. The sunsets we witnessed here were so incredible!
As for other amenities it also has a swimming pool , water activities like kayaking and paddle boarding, tennis court, fitness center and spa.
They also have bikes to get around across the property. It was so much fun scooting around in the warm breeze from one end to the other.
My absolute fave thing to do was walking up and down the beach or laying one of the many hammocks on the beach ; or making friends with the numerous palms on the property !
There is no restaurant on property, but the resort also owns two amazing restaurants right on the other side of the highway – Pierre’s and Beach Cafe ; both are part of Morada Bay. The Beach Cafe is perfect for casual dining, while Pierre’s provides the ambiance for a more romantic evening. We went over to Beach Cafe several times and loved the delicious seafood and drinks here! Plus the location is right on the water, so with great food + a relaxing ambiance + toes in the sand its a win-win-win.
Its no surprise why Moorings has been featured and raved about on so many publications from CNTraveler, Vogue, National Geographic and more. Vogue also said it is “arguably the best resort in the keys!”. Also if you watch Bloodline on Netflix, Moorings would look very familiar ; the series was shot here!
We had such a wonderful stay at Moorings Village and can’t recommend it enough if you are ever visiting the Keys for a family or couple getaway! Thanks for stopping by. xoxo

Beautiful photos, Jyo! I’m originally from South Florida (the Sarasota area), and these photos make me so homesick. I’ve actually become inspired to visit the Keys/Islamorada when I go home this January because of your Instagram posts — can’t wait to see those gorgeous sunsets again in person <3
Thank you so much Mimi! I love SoFlo, its so beautiful especially this time of year post hurricane season. I have been dying to visit the west coast like sarasota, will have to take tips from you :).
