On one of the days we were at Punta Cana, Paulina and I took a day trip to beautiful Saona Island with Vacaciones Barcelo. Vacaciones Barcelo is part of the Barcelo group of hotels and basically they are the go to for planning all your island transfers, activities and other fun excursions. They have a bunch of various options to choose from based on the time you have and what you are most interested in.
We opted for the Saona Island excursion. Saona Island is a little slice of heaven that lies a little off the southeastern tip of the Dominican Republic. It is part of the Del Este National Park which is best known for mangroves, coral reefs, marine life, and palm-fringed beaches with the most glorius shallow waters and white sands. The excursion was well taken care and it included a scheduled pick up drop off from our hotel, a knowledgable guide along the way, entrance fees, drinks and simple yet delicious island lunch.
We first got to Bayahibe beach and boarded speedboats to cruise on the beautiful Caribbean Sea. Out first stop was the Natural Swimming Pool just off of Isla Saona. This is known to be the “largest natural swimming pool in the world”; it had waist-deep transparent waters hundreds of meters from the island’s shoreline and hanging out in this paradise was sheer heaven! We saw so many starfish and fish at our feet, and beautiful scenery (palm tree lined coasts , crystal clear waters) all around us!
We then cruised over to Saona Island for the rest of the day. Paulina and I fell in love with the laidback island life here on this little island – there were so many colorful shacks along the beach, endless palms for days and the most gorgeous blue waters to bask in. If you go here on a private tour, make sure to check out the colorful fishing village on Isla Saona. Here are some pics from our time out on this beautiful tropical island :
On the way back we boarded a Catamaran and it was one helluva party ride back to our hotel. It was soooo much fun to dance to the rhythm of merengue and island music along with people from all over the world ! It was the perfect end to our amazing island vacay.
Thanks for stopping by! xoxo
