Happy first day of winter! One of my favorite places for a weekend getaway here in Norcal is Lake Tahoe. Last summer we visited South lake Tahoe for the first time and absolutely loved it! Tahoe is such a versatile destination as you get a whole different experience depending on whether you visit it in the summer or in the winter. Last week I went for a quick girls getaway with my blogger girlfriend Paulina to North Lake Tahoe. This time aside from visiting a different part of Tahoe, we stayed up in the mountains so that we get to experience being in the snow, compared to staying downhill by the lakeside last time, since we wanted to be by the water for summer activities.
Where to stay :
If you are staying up in the mountains in North Lake Tahoe, there are many gorgeous ski resorts for you to choose from. We stayed at Northstar which is a beautiful resort nestled in the perfect location up in the mountains. Other resorts in the area include the Ritz Carlton which we visited one day (see more below) and the Resort at Squaw valley.
What to do :
1 ) If you are an avid snow bum or an eager beginner , Northstar offers amazing skiing, snowboarding and other fun snow activities. The snow wasn’t just as full since its early in the season, but the mountains has plenty to suffice for a fun filled snow activity day.

2 ) Apres ski activities – My fave! Im no skiier or snowboarder but I love all the fun Apres ski activities like ice skating, cozying up with some hot cocoa by the fireplace and meeting new friends from all around the world.
3) The Village at Northstar is so cute to stroll around. There’s an ice skating rink, shopping, a spa (with the most amazing hottubs), cafes, etc.
4) Ride the free Highlands Gondola for a picturesque ride upto the gorgeous Ritz Carlton lake Tahoe. The location of the Ritz is so breathtaking, you can see all the beautiful mountain ranges, which would look 10 times prettier when covered with snow! Set mid-mountain at Northstar California, The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe offers effortless access to countless winter activities with mountain concierge services and ski-in/ski-out access. The hotel’s après-ski experiences includes an award winning slope-side spa and complimentary s’mores! We tried all the flavors of the smores by the fireplace and it was so delicious! The Ritz is a fantastic place to stay or even spend a full day. We spent the afternoon and stayed on for a drinks and a light dinner at the Highlands bar.
5) Cozy up in your cabin/room/air bnb – theres nothing I love more than snuggling up at home especially during the holidays; while watching Christmas movies and sipping on yummy hot cocoa and midnight snacking on holiday goodies.
6) Explore and have “snow” much fun! Paulina and I had the best time driving around the mountains and discovering tons of scenic spots in this winter wonderland that literally look our breath away.
Thanks for stopping by! xoxo
